St. Paul's Episcopal Church

"Life is short and we have too little time to gladden the hearts of those who travel the way with us. Be swift to love. Make haste to be kind.” Henri Frederic Amiel, a 19th century Swiss philosopher

The Music Program at St. Paul's

The Music Program at St. Paul's follows in the tradition of the Episcopal Church
liturgy. We use the 1982 Hymnal in companionship with the Red Book of Common
Prayer (BCP) and the Revised Common Lectionary. One of the beautiful qualities of
the traditional  Episcopal Church service is the integration of sacred classical music,
from the classical masters such as Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, Giovanni Palestrina,
Michael Praetorius, J. S. Bach, G. F. Händel, W. A. Mozart, and Franz Schubert, to
the contemporary sacred classics of Robert Powell, Richard Proulx, Healy Willan
along with the current popular sacred music such as John Rutter and others. St. Paul's
has a wonderful Adult & Youth Choir and for special occasions, a Children's Choir.

    In addition to the wonderful

Adult & Youth Choir & on special
    ocassions, our Children's Choir,

    St. Paul's other instruments include

a wonderful three manual and pedal

1982 Howell Pipe Organ of 42 ranks

    with 99 levels of memory.

The organ console is moveable for

concerts and practice so the organist

may be in the center of the nave and

better judge the balance and volume

    of the instrument.

The Cable-Mason & Hamlin Grand Piano
is a second musical instrument in the
sanctuary that is often used to accompany

the choral anthems at the later service.

The sanctuary has an elevated platform where the altar stands. This is an ideal setting
and location for community and professional performances. The famous internationally
acclaimed Vermeer String Quartet once performed here at St. Paul's while in residence
   at Northern Illinois University.

St. Paul's Episcopal Church is a member of the:
