St. Paul's Episcopal Church

"Life is short and we have too little time to gladden the hearts of those who travel the way with us. Be swift to love. Make haste to be kind.” Henri Frederic Amiel, a 19th century Swiss philosopher

Maureen Gerrity and her children started attending St. Paul's in 1992. Maureen is an Assistant Administrator at the Barb City Manor Retirement Home. “I had been away from organized religion for over 10 years, but felt a strong need to give my children a foundation in faith. From our first visit, I felt I had found what I was looking for - it was a tremendous relief to be in a place where it is okay to have an opinion! In May 1993, my four children were baptized and I was received into the Episcopal Church. All of my children have since been confirmed at St. Paul's. The members of St. Paul's have been an integral part of my children's transition into adulthood! I became a Sunday school teacher a few years after joining St. Paul's because Eva Leonard asked me to! She and I were co-leaders for the intermediate class. Talking with children about God and Jesus Christ always leaves me with a sense of renewal! I do believe that I am the one that benefits the most from this experience!“

Jocelyn Prall, Christian Education Instructor, grew up at St. Paul’s.  She has been a member since 1962 when she and her family moved here from the East Coast. Her father The Reverend Charles Brieant, was the Vicar then Rector of St. Paul's. She has taught Sunday school for many years and also serves on the Altar Guild. She is a registered nurse and is the Director of Nursing at the DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center. She has three grown boys and a delightful daughter-in-law.

Sue Ouellette has been a member of St. Paul's for about six years. She is Chair of the School of Allied Health and Communicative Disorders at NIU and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Most importantly, Sue is the mother of three young adults all of whom were confirmed at St. Paul's. The Ouellette family came to St. Paul's because they appreciated the rich tradition and diversity of thought in the Episcopal Church, and stayed because they found a true family among the parishioners. Sue enjoys teaching the Junior/Senior High Christian formation class and serving as an usher. She has been a member of the Vestry for two years. In her leisure time, Sue enjoys yoga, reading, and bridge.
