| St. Paul's first annual pet blessing ceremony was held on the bright sunny afternoon of October 4th 2009, in celebration of the feast of St. Francis.
Fourteen dogs and a cockatiel were blessed by the Reverend Gwynne Wright. The dogs and the cockatiel all enjoyed dog biscuits while their humans enjoyed lemonade and cookies.
The service was free and open to all. Thank you to all who participated and helped. Thanks to all who shared their photos. A special thank you to Bob Lastick & Rochelle Cripe for their on the scene photography.

The Pet Blessing is traditionally celebrated the first Sunday in October on the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, who was known for his affection toward animals of all kinds. The public is invited to bring their pets for a celebration of their life, as well as a personal blessing from Reverend Stacy Walker-Frontjes. Photographs may also be brought to honor pets that prefer not to travel.

The celebration will be held on the back patio of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, located at 900 Normal Road in DeKalb. If the weather is inclement, the celebration will be held in the Parish Hall (adjacent to the back patio). For the safety and health of the animals, the public is encouraged to use crates and/or leashes when appropriate. Light refreshments for both humans and pets will follow the ceremony.
